Just a quick post to invite Novocastrians along to ‘Birds with Bling’, a community art workshop I’m running at Fig Tree Community Garden (next to the Croatian Club) this Sunday.
Come along to the Garden on Sunday 31st July at 10am for the monthly working bee plus a free community art workshop. The Birds with Bling workshop is for children and adults and involves making a nifty bird shaped decoration for your garden. Please wear old clothes as we’ll be using enamel paint. The workshop, and working bee, will be followed by one of Fig Tree’s famous wood fired pizza lunches.
Birds with Bling is part of Seed, a community project initiated to involve the local community in the planning of an upcoming Garden mural project. The mural, to be painted on the side of the Croatian Club, adjacent to the Figtree Garden, will have a Community Garden theme. People from the local community, or in fact anyone interested in organic gardening, art or community gardens, are invited to come along and discuss the question ‘what does Fig Tree Community Garden mean to you?’
Sunday’s workshop activities include painting decorative imagery onto wooden bird shaped cut outs; these shapes can then be attached to garden stakes, hung from trees or wired onto fences. This is a family friendly event, so feel free to bring your kids.
This workshop was made possible by a grant from Octapod’s Seedpod 2011 CCD Program. For more information, please email figtreegarden at gmail.com or have a look at Fig Tree’s website by clicking here.
